In search of alternative microscope slide mounting media which are both non-toxic and inexpensive (as opposed to something like DPX, which contains Xylene), I prepared a glycerol jelly, which is an aqueous mounting medium. I followed J.A. Kiernan’s recipe (the University of Western Ontario: Kiernan JA (2023) Making and using aqueous mounting media. https://publish.uwo.ca/~jkiernan/aqmount.htm. Accessed 12 June 2026.). I look forward to putting this medium to the test the next time I make a permanent slide.
